What goes on the handover note

Every booking starts with a note on the fridge. Here is what we ask families to write on it, and why.

A kitchen table in the late afternoon with a half-finished jigsaw puzzle, crayons and children’s drawings, two cups of milk and a plate of biscuits

Every booking starts with a note on the fridge. Our sitters read it before you go, ask about anything unclear, and give it back ticked at the end of the evening.

What to put on it

  • Bedtimes, and how many stories.
  • Food: what is for tea, what is allowed after, and anything they must not eat.
  • Medicines and allergies: where things are and when, if ever, they are given. We never give anything that is not on the note.
  • Where you are and how to reach you, plus one more grown-up nearby.
  • The house: the alarm, the back door, which light stays on.
  • The important things: the teddy that must be in the bed, the word for the toilet, the fear of the hall cupboard.

What comes back

The note, ticked, with a line from the sitter: what they ate, what they played, when they fell asleep, and anything you should know in the morning.
